15-Minute Spiritual Morning Routine to Ease Anxiety
Seven years after Rebekah Lyons (click here to view her website) thought she had overcome her daily battles with anxiety and depression, she suffered a major panic attack, worse than any she had experienced before. The relapse caused Lyons to take a closer look at her response to fear. In her new book, Rhythms of Renewal: Trading Stress and Anxiety for a Life of Peace and Purpose, out today, Lyons details how daily struggles with anxiety and stress make it difficult to find peace and reach spiritual health in an article at Parade.com (click to to view). Below is a synopsis of that article.
If possible, I start every day this way. Prayer grants me access to the Holy Spirit’s comfort, a balm that transcends time and space, reputation and race. Through these moments, Jesus repairs, restores, redeems, and resurrects.
Each entry begins with the setting, the time, the date. As much as these entries help me discern the direction of any given day, I know they’ll serve as reminders of God’s faithfulness in the days to come.
Each day is a little different. Sometimes I take a passage and camp there, or a long section of Psalms, sometimes an entire book at a time in the Old or New Testament. But each day, this time in the Scriptures is like the table set by God in Psalm 23. It’s a feast the Father has laid out for me, offering me everything I will need as I set out for the rest of the day.

By This Name
In today’s world, many adopt their own brand of spirituality to make God out to be anything they want. Others consider God to be an impersonal force. By This Name utilizes a seldom-used but solidly biblical method to set apart the God of the Bible from other forms of spirituality, all the while answering two questions: “Who is Jesus?” and “What are the cross and tomb all about?” It establishes the authority of Scripture and gently compares the biblical worldview with other worldviews in an objective, non-arm-twisting way.
